Merry Christmas from BORCA
We recently took part in the Beachburg Christmas Parade. Hope you enjoyed this fabulous community event.

The Beachburg Off Road Cycling Association (BORCA) creates non-motorized, multi-use trails within the Whitewater Township. Our vision is two-fold. Firstly, to encourage locals and visitors to spend time outside enjoying the world-class natural resources right at our doorstep, all the while living a healthy lifestyle.  The second part to our vision is to develop a trail system that will draw visitors the Whitewater Township thus encouraging development on a social, environmental and economic level.

We are comprised of 6 board members, all local. As a registered Not For Profit association, we organize a few events each year, our biggest event being the Beachburg Spring Chicken mountain bike and trail run race which is the second weekend in May, 2013. This event alone brings in up to 200 competitors, from various parts of the province and beyond.

Thanks to local land owners and 1000's of volunteer hours BORCA is capable of managing a trail system that stretches from the Village of Beachburg all the way to the Rapids along the Ottawa River.

YOU CAN BE A BORCA MEMBER:
Come the 2013 trail season (usually April) you can join BORCA as an official member. Being a registered member with BORCA means that you will help support the trails you use and ensure that we can maintain our insurance costs for both the trail user and our association.

Summer 2012

An early spring made for some early season trail preparation and clearing. Thanks to dry weather and low winds, there wasn't too much dead fall to remove.  The scorching mid-summer weather we experienced allowed BORCA to be productive in building more singletrack and upgrading some of the existing features.
Just over 5 more kms have been added over the summer months and about the same amount has been re-openened from what was built many years ago. 
July was such a hot month that BORCA decided to hold a river-oriented event called "THE HARDWATER CHALLENGE". This event was to raise funds for a kayaker access trail that BORCA helped to build in order to help cover some of the costs to maintain the trail and the parking area.  The Hardwater saw 20 competitors trail run and swim along the rapids of the Ottawa River, from the Lorne Rapid to the paddle take out.
The Whitewater Corridor trails, located at the Lorne Rapid on the Ottawa saw some signage go up with names like; "Upper" and "Lower Lorne", "Don't Tell Joe" and closer to Wilderness Tours, "Power Hour".  Look for the signs, the names are rotored into old barn board, painted blue. More trail was added to the singletrack in the Little Lakes tract, just off of Pappin Road and another 500m was added to Vereyken Valley trail.
In mid August the Stewardship Rangers volunteered a day to help smooth out some of the Upper Lorne Trail by removing some of the more precarious rocks and armoring some of the dips, roots and hollows that have been created from trail use.  We thank all 6 of them for their hardwork.

Coming this fall, expect to see an official website, as well as some more trails to pop up closer to the Village of Beachburg.

Fall 2011

BORCA is now an official not-for-profit incorporation!

Over the past couple months we have continued to maintain and fine-tune the existing network as well as begin to clear some new trails.

This winter we will find the time to create an official trail map of the surrounding network of old roads, double track and singletrack. We will commence the application process for various grants and continue to plan our long term goals of creating an IMBA EPIC trail along the shores of the mighty Ottawa River.

In May 2012 BORCA will host the 3rd SPRING CHICKEN ENDURO, a 50km or 25km (and kiddies) Mtb race and trail running event (5km/10km). BORCA will be hosting the event in conjunction with the Beachburg JAM - an action packed weekend of live music, tasty food and good times all around.  Stay tuned.

Summer 2011

June, July and August saw quite a few more kilometers of singletrack being built in the Beachburg area. Four kms along the shores of the Ottawa River and four in the Village of Beachburg, including the County Forest Trails. See link to maps on the right.

Thanks Giving weekend saw a scouting trip to the islands across the rapids of the Ottawa River, to explore the trails and roads that this area has to offer. Only accessible by boat, these islands are packed with great views, history and culture.

Officially a Club.

BORCA is now officially a club.

We registered with IMBA (www.imbacanada.com) a month ago and are now on the roster! We are also just finishing up our Incorporation papers and will now be able to apply for many more grants, meaning....more trails sooner.
