July Updates from BORCA

Trails conditions are great,  hard packed and traffic is keeping the trail tread clear of weeds. Riders and Hikers are busy keeping the trails clear of small debris, all the while Eric, our trail boss for this summer, is working very hard out there. Eric has, in the last 5 weeks, created over 5km of new trail, updated many sections of old trail and revamped the pump track located in the Beachburg Fairgrounds.
Locations of the new trails include a 1.5km addition to the Beachburg County Forest outside singletrack loop, a 1.5km addition in the newly acquired Little Lakes County Forest, off of Pappin Road. The new trails in the LL county forest includes a sweet 'flow' section for more advanced riders, which then links up to a cruisy red pine section with some 1m high berms built into it.

Events:
August 16th is the Tour De Bonnechere, a great road tour of the Bonnechere Valley, in the hills of Foymount and Eganville area. Varying distances, from 18km to 100km.
Info here: http://tourdebonnechere.blogspot.ca/

Wednesday, August 26th will be our fourth BORCA social ride night, leaving from the Brewery at 6:30pm. Groups will split depending of ability level. No pressure rides, just a good time, exploring the trails.

September 20th, The Forest Lea Enduro is happening. Info: http://forestleatrails.blogspot.ca/p/forest-lea-enduro.html
One of the best xc races going, full of singletrack (99%) that challenges even the most seasoned riders, especially the 50km!! Limit of 100 riders.

Our June incident of barbwire across the trail was rectified, wire removed and issue resolved.
We have been notified of the WILD PARSNIP in the area of the Coliseum trail, "Chuch a Moon" trail. This plant is commonly found in abandoned agricultural lands, fields, ditches, etc... Great info here, with pictures: http://www.healthunit.org/hazards/documents/OIPC_BMP_Wild_Parsnip.pdf

new website will be up in the next day or two!

Happy Trails :)

June BORCA updates

June 2015
BORCA was just notified that a section of trail closer to WT (Wilderness Tours) had a section of barbwire and fence strung across a trail. It was across a wider/ATV trail that is used by horses and bikes. Upon inspection, this seems to be a malicious act. We have notified the police. If anyone has information on this, please contact borcabeachburg@gmail.com asap. The fencing has been removed. Please be cautious out there, especially on downhills/at speed.

On a lighter note....
BORCA is now offering, in association with Valley Cycle Tours, bike trips ranging from high-end multi-day road/gravel tours and fine dining to day trips catered to mountain biking trail rides. Visit http://www.valleycycletours.com/

BORCA Shwag is soon to be available at Whitewater Brewery. BORCA jerseys, flexfit hats and socks, all available for your next ride and 'Apres' beverage!

Wednesday night MTB rides every last Wednesday of the month. Meet at Whitewater Brewery, ready to ride at 6:30pm. All levels of riders welcome as we will break into groups. Again, "Apres" beverages to follow the group ride.

More trail and and more signs are always in the works. We have created a simple map of the singletrack behind the brewery (advanced) , as well as the County Forest trails (beginner/intermediate)

Global Fat Bike Day(s) with BORCA

What a fantastic weekend had by all for our inaugural Global FatBike Day with BORCA. Riders from Ottawa, the OMBA crew, and surrounding area, Almont, Pembroke and Petawawa too, showed up to ride along the BORCA trails, along the Ottawa River corridor for a couple hours and then warm up at the Whitewater Brewery, conveniently located at the trailhead.
Some decided to stay the night and take part in the Beachburg Xmas parade, riding their fatbikes alongside the BORCA float, as hundreds of candycanes where catapulted towards the spectators that stretched along Main Street Beachburg.
A few riders braved the cold and camped out by the river, under the full moon, listening to the roar of the Rapids as they fell asleep. Breakfast at the brewery (a one-time 'special' arrangement, thanks Guys!) was a delicious plate of bacon, eggs, sausages, peppered mushrooms, toast and many, many cups of tasty Madawaska Coffee served in a French press. With those calories into us, and a couple more riders coming in from around, the fatbike posse embarked on a 30km cruise under a sun-filled sky and perfect temps.
At 2:30 pm we all met back at the brewery, some stayed for lunch whereas others had to begin the journey home.
All in all, a fantastic weekend.
On behalf of BORCA, Many Thanks to all who came out to ride!

See you on Global Fatbike Day 2015!
